Details :	The genesis of this bold initiative originated from the realization that there was virtually little or no information on electronic and electrical waste and the consequences of improper disposal of the product once it had reached its end of life. Concern about the harmful effects of hazardous waste in e-waste has led to the European Union adopting directives on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and restriction on hazardous substances (RoHS). The EU recently implemented its WEEE and ROHS Directives. Companies operating in the EU market have to find cost effective ways to comply with new environmental legislation. Few developing country governments have begun to take on board the implications for eco-design, hazardous materials substitution and recycling. The conference will take place on the 27th and 28th of November in Pretoria, South Africa, at the CSIR international convention centre. KEY OBJECTIVES -To raise public awareness on the environmentally sound management of used, end of life electrical and electronic equipment. -To promote awareness of the implications of the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and ROHS initiatives. -To support national and local initiatives to divert end of life equipment from landfills towards sustainable reuse and recycling operations to protect human health and the environment. -To disseminate educational information to all spheres of government, (national provincial and local); parastatals; Corporates and SME’s, regarding the role of the Environmental Management Inspectorate. -To support international trends in best environmental practices.
